I call you from the comet's cradle; I found you -- trembling by yourself, when the night falls lightly on your right-wing shoulder, wonderful know-it-all -- slightly where the night gets colder. Oh, conscience, where will you carry me? I found you, Star of Terrifying Effigies. When the night falls, I carry myself to the fortress of Your glorious cost. Oh, how I may seek your fortress! When the night falls, I find the star of wonder. When the night falls, I seek Your glorious fortress. When the night falls, we see the star of wonder. Wonderful night falls. We see you. We see you there. I see the stars coming down there, coming down there to the yard. I see the stars coming down there, coming down there to my heart. (But I can see you clearly now, and I know that there’s no end: there is only this. And I swear that I will keep your secrets safe in my heart if you give me this chance at all.)

"O, Come! O, Come! Emmanuel!" is an original rework of the traditional Christmas hymn "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," whose melody was discovered in a 15th-century manuscript in 1966 by British musicologist Mary Berry. "Star of Wonder" is an original rework of the mystical title track that appears on Sufjan Stevens's excellent 2006 Songs for Christmas. Both tracks are arranged, performed, engineered, and recorded by Dylan Beck and Danilo Uomo and produced, mixed, and mastered by Dylan Beck with instruments programmed or performed by Dylan Beck and Danilo Uomo.

Recorded primarily from November to December 2020 at the Cats' Room and the Theater of Dreams in Kansas City, MO, and CoMO Country Home in Columbia, MO. Other field recordings were captured at 3535 Wyandotte in April 2020 in Kansas City, MO, and at Weston Bend State Park in October 2020 in Weston, MO.

Mixed from November to December 2020 at the Cats' Room.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all involved in the process of making this single. We are forever indebted to MP, KT, JG, and JN for allowing us into their homes to record. Love you, Sufjan.

about

Carlo dell'Aquila Kansas City, Missouri

Uniting once again, Dylan C. Beck and Danilo Uomo are Carlo dell'Aquila.

Conceived originally as a spiritual successor to late-era Talk Talk, Carlo dell'Aquila combines the haunting lyricism of Sufjan Stevens with the swirling dream pop of the Antlers and cosmic mysticism of the Microphones; the result is a sound that demands to be heard. ... more
